Fairy-tale Romance: Spring/Summer 2009 Trend

Written by Tania Braukamper

Flouncing ruffles, rosette clusters, and delicate capelets. Moving away from the sleek and sexy, some designers topped off their Spring/Summer 2009 runway shows with the ultimate in romantic gowns; making the fairy-tale dress somewhat of a 2009 fashion trend.

Who designed it

Nina Ricci was definitely the leader in this trend on the Spring/Summer 2009 runways - her sweeping trains, puffed sleeves, and delicate detailing made for the most romantic and ethereal designs. Also look to Roberto Cavalli and Chanel for more shining examples.

Trend status

Ok, so we're not really expecting many people to head down to their local Starbucks dressed like Cinderella. For the better part, this trend will most likely be reflected on red carpets, and in editorial shoots.

How to wear it

That said, you can certainly indulge in this trend as evening wear and for special occasions. For an every-day take, select an element of the trend and mix it in with your existing wardrobe. Rock up a romantic puff-sleeved capelet by pairing it with ripped denim and super-high heels; or play down a full, ruffled skirt with a simple tee or singlet.

There aren't too many alpha-females out there and, though she might deny it, Tania Braukamper certainly exudes their qualities. A keen eye, a focused approach, and a wardrobe spanning three rooms have made her one of the savviest of dressers. But it's not all couture for Tania, earning her fashionista credentials she'll frequently be seen on the town in a one-off, vintage dress and a pair of Gucci heels.

She says: Vintage will never go out of style
We say: Does that include vintage 80s?
